MOTORHEAD hit 2012 with new DVD and spot on GIGANTOUR
by admin on Jan.24, 2012, under news
Another country, another town, another place, the greatest road warriors in rock have once again bled their sweat all over another stage. A sold-out crowd roars their approval. Here we go: Lemmy steps up to the mike… “WE ARE MOTÖRHEAD ! . . . AND WE PLAY ROCK‘N‘ROLL !”
And after each show one thing is crystal clear: Motörhead remain the finest, loudest, hardest and coolest live British rock’n’roll band around. The global tour for their 20th studio release, The Wörld is Yours, took in Motörhead bangers from America to Argentina, Belgium to Brazil, from Sweden to Spain and dozens of other countries all over the world.
In celebration of their 35 years on the road, on January 24th Motörhead Music/UDR is proud to present: The Wörld Is Ours-Vol 1 – Everywhere Further Than Everyplace Else, a blistering DVD containing some of the finest moments from the tour, including the entire performance from Chile’s Teatro Caupolican, shot and filmed in classic black and white by Banger Films and Sam Dunn (Iron Maiden Flight 666, Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage). Mixed by the band‘s long-time producer Cameron Webb, The Wörld Is Ours – Vol 1 – Everywhere Further Than Everyplace Else is stuffed with the classics Motörfans demand, from ‘Overkill‘ to “Ace Of Spades” to “Killed By Death” as well as some old gems like “Over The Top” and new favorites such as “I Know How To Die.”
As well as this epic Motörperformance, exciting numbers from the shows in Manchester and New York are also included on the triple-disc digipack set, along with a series of extensive, in depth and exclusive interviews with the band, a bonus double live CD of the Chile show (incl. selected tracks from NY & Manchester), plus a superbly photographed booklet documenting life on the road during the tour.
On January 26, Motörhead make their return to the U.S. and Canada on the multi-bill festival, GIGANTOUR, with Megadeth, Volbeat and Lacuna Coil. Gigantour is a chance to tour with like-minded artists “that play heavy music in a high-energy environment,” says Dave Mustaine. The tour will kick off on Jan. 26 in Camden, NJ and run through Feb. 28 in Denver, and will include stops in NY (Jan. 28) and Los Angeles (Feb. 24).

GIGANTOUR 2012 announce dates for MEGADETH, LACUNA COIL, MOTORHEAD, & VOLBEAT
by admin on Nov.03, 2011, under news
GIGANTOUR—the critically acclaimed package festival founded in 2005 by esteemed metal titans MEGADETH–will make its highly anticipated return for the first time since 2008. The multi-artist bill–with metal heavyweights MOTÖRHEAD, VOLBEAT and LACUNA COIL all personally picked by MEGADETH frontman DAVE MUSTAINE–will kick off January 26 in Camden, NJ. Before wrapping February 28 in Denver, CO, the tour will make stops all across the U.S. and Canada including a January 28 show in New York and February 24 in Los Angeles. Tickets are on-sale beginning November 4. For more information visit: http://www.gigantour.com. MEGADETH has also teamed up with VIPNation.com to provide fans with Ultimate VIP packages including premium tickets, meet and greets, exclusive gifts and more. Go to www.megadeth.com for all the details.
GIGANTOUR is a chance to, as MUSTAINE says, tour with like-minded artists “that play heavy music in a high-energy environment,” with a fan-friendly ticket price. He founded the tour in 2005 and invited such artists as Anthrax, Dream Theater, Fear Factory, Lamb of God, Opeth, Static-X and In Flames to join MEGADETH.
Lemmy, frontman of the legendary MOTÖRHEAD, looks forward to performing at this year’s GIGANTOUR amongst all the other talented musicians. “We’ve done festivals in Europe with Lacuna Coil and they’re workaholics as well! Volbeat are great too; the whole bill is pretty diverse and I advise everyone who likes being deaf, and/or can lip-read already, to come out and see what the stuff that doesn’t get any MTV Video Awards sounds like! Gigantour is just that!”
He goes on to say, “Megadeth are one of the greatest bands to tread a stage anywhere and me and Dave have been promising each other we’d tour together ever since we met! Volbeat and Lacuna Coil are interesting choices and I think it’s gonna be incredible trying to understand each other backstage! Come and see what eclectic means! (look THAT up in your Funk & Wagnall‘s)! See you!”
VOLBEAT vocalist and guitarist Michael Poulsensaid the band couldn’t refuse MUSTAINE‘s offer to join the tour. “This is something you don’t think twice about; it’s a must and a blessing. They [Megadeth and Motörhead] are two of the world’s biggest/best and most important bands in heavy rock history. Since the beginning, Megadeth and Motörhead have been a huge inspiration of my/our musical careers. To have the opportunity to go on the road and share the stage with these two legendary rock bands, is another dream come true in the Volbeat adventure. We are very thankful and cannot wait to play in front of these two legendary bands’ audience for some intense minutes of Volbeat rock!”
LACUNA COIL is eager to return for their second GIGANTOUR; they first performed as part of the 2007 tour. “When we were invited to join Gigantour once again, we were really happy as it seems like the perfect way to start the Dark Adrenaline album cycle in the US,” says co-vocalist Andrea Ferro. “Our new album will be released during the tour and it’s gonna be great. We will be playing alongside metal legends like Megadeth and Motörhead and it’s gonna be awesome. It’s a great touring package with two classic bands and two younger bands who each have a unique sound like Lacuna Coil and Volbeat. I Can’t wait!”
Co-vocalist Cristina Scabbia agrees. “WOW! Gigantour! I am super excited!! I mean are you kidding me? A tour with Megadeth, Motörhead, Vollbeat and us? This is going to be so crushing that I think the walls are gonna fall down in some of the venues!! Are you guys ready? I definitely am!”

MEGADETH to tour with MOTORHEAD, VOLBEAT, & LACUNA COIL in 2012
by admin on Sep.21, 2011, under news
CBS Street Date spoke with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine recently about the 25th anniversary reissue of Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying, the band’s new album TH1RT3EN and tour plans.
Mustaine revealed about the upcoming “killing road” plans: “This year coming up we’re gonna be having us, MOTÖRHEAD, a great band that’s coming up called VOLBEAT and LACUNA COIL. A lot of people just want to see my band METALLICA. That’s all they want to see. I like the Big 4 idea a little bit more myself. I would certainly do a two-band tour if it was Metallica and Megadeth. I’m looking forward to the time when me and Lars (Ulrich) and James (Hetfield) and David Ellefson make a record together.”

R.I.P. Michael ‘Würzel’ Burston
by admin on Jul.11, 2011, under news
From the Guardian UK:
Few fans of the English heavy metal band Motörhead would recognise the name Michael Burston, but if presented with his stage name, Würzel, the majority would respond with unequivocal enthusiasm. The guitarist, who has died aged 61 after suffering from heart disease, came closer than any of the group’s many members to being the face of the band, with the exception of Motörhead‘s founder, Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister. Much of Burston‘s enduring popularity came from his unaffected good nature, his reluctance to avoid playing the role of the rock star and his expert musicianship.
Fans also identified with Burston because of the unlikely manner of his emergence into the public eye. Before joining the band, he worked as a builder and played rock guitar at small club and pub gigs. Although he had developed a dexterous, blues-indebted style that impressed local audiences, his childhood dream of stardom was fading rapidly. “I knew deep down that the only thing I would really be happy doing was playing rock’n'roll,” he recalled, “but I did think, ‘I’m 30 years old – am I going to do anything? How am I going to carry on playing these pubs forever?‘”
Burston read, in an interview with Lemmy, that the guitarist Brian Robertson had recently left Motörhead. As he remembered, “I wrote [Lemmy] a letter and sent a tape, and he phoned me up for an audition. He also said, ‘We’ll probably end up with an unknown guitarist’, and there was no one in the country who was more unknown than I was.”

HeadCat (Lemmy, Slim Jim Phantom, Danny B. Harvey) to release Walk The Walk…Talk The Talk on July 5th
by admin on May.23, 2011, under news
Members of Motörhead, The Stray Cats, and Lonesome Spurs team up for new HeadCat release!
LEMMY KILMISTER (Motörhead), SLIM JIM PHANTOM (The Stray Cats) and DANNY B. HARVEY (Rockats, 13 Cats, Lonesome Spurs), have teamed up in a high-energy, “take no prisoners” combo to remind the world how real rock ‘n roll is supposed to fuckin sound. HeadCat serves up a delicious melting pot with flavors of rockabilly, punk, blues and undeniable rock ‘n roll!
HeadCat was formed in 2000 after recording an Elvis Presley tribute special to which all band members contributed. Slim Jim Phantom (drums, percussion), was born in Brooklyn and listened to his parents’ jazz records. At the age of ten he took up the drums although he always says that the drums chose him. He is an exceptional drummer who cemented his place among rock royalty long time ago and inspires and excites audiences worldwide.
Danny B. Harvey (guitar, piano) is Texas born and also discovered his love for music very early. He started playing the guitar at the age of six and even got a full scholarship to study classical guitar. He developed a finger picking guitar style that’s very unique and based on his idols Merle Travis and Chet Atkins but also a result of his classical-technique education.
Lemmy Kilmister (vocals, bass, harmonica) was born and raised in England and started to play the guitar at the age of sixteen. With a laughing eye he always said that he only took the guitar to impress the girls. He is an autodidact and changed early to bass as he stated he wasn’t a good guitar player. After founding Motörhead in 1975 he knows the ups and downs in the business and has reached the status of an Icon all over the world.
The new HeadCat album ‘Walk The Walk…Talk The Talk’ is due to be released July 5th, 2011 through Niji Entertainment Group, the record label Wendy Dio and her and late husband Ronnie James Dio formed before his untimely passing.
Twelve fantastic songs for ‘Walk The Walk, Talk The Talk’ were chosen easily. HeadCat prepare to take over the airwaves with their first single ‘American Beat‘. ‘American Beat’ is a song written in the studio - Lemmy had the words and the rest came together very quickly. ‘I Ain’t Never‘ is one of the songs Lemmy really likes and Danny knew it – a real country, rockabilly number, full of love and ready to take you drifting away. ‘Let It Rock‘ is one of their favorite Chuck Berry tunes – The Stones did it a lot in their live show in the 70′s – HeadCat plays a different version. ‘Something Else’ is a classic Eddie Cochran – Lemmy came on stage with the Stray Cats and jammed on it at a show in the 90′s at Hammersmith Odeon so it came quite natural to take this on the record as well.
‘Walk The Walk…Talk The Talk‘ track listing confirmed as follows:
American Beat
Say Mama
I Ain’t Never
Bad Boy
Shaking All Over
Let It Rock
Something Else
The Eagle Flies On Friday
Trying To Get To You
You Can’t Do That
It’ll Be Me
Crossroads

TWISTED SISTER’s Under The Blade digital remaster & live ’82 Reading Festival DVD drops May 31st
by admin on May.07, 2011, under news
Eagle Rock Entertainment will release the landmark metal debut of 1982, Under The Blade by Twisted Sister, on May 31. The CD—originally produced by Pete Way of UFO—will also contain four tracks from their 1982 Ruff Cuts EP (never before on CD) as well as “Shoot ‘Em Down,” an ‘82 live track from England’s prestigious Reading Festival. The lavish package features the original Under The Blade cover, which has not appeared on any domestic versions of the album until now, and reflects the original Secret Records track list and remastered audio mix.
The DVD contains the entire previously-unreleased Reading concert. Vocalist Dee Snider, guitarists Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda, bassist Mark Mendoza and drummer A.J. Pero gave the crowd something they had not exactly ever seen before. It was, for all intents and purposes, a coming-out affair for this great band. They play as if their life depends upon it. They play as if they have something to prove. And they did. They’re young, hungry, determined and wind up headbanging with a desperate ferocity usually reserved for those kinds of life-altering performances that make a band. This is one of those performances. The set concludes with a show-stopping version of “It’s Only Rock “N’ Roll” as the band jams out with Pete Way and Motorhead’s Fast Eddie Clarke and Lemmy! The DVD also includes 40 minutes of newly shot interviews with the band about the recording of Under The Blade and the Reading Festival.
French joined the band Silver Star, a New Jersey based ‘Glitter Band” in December 1972. The band, whose original purpose was to be the New Jersey version of the New York Dolls, changed their name to Twisted Sister on Valentines Day 1973. The band however continually changed line-ups and didn’t take off until Snider joined in 1976. The lineup didn’t fully coalesce until 1982 with the final addition of drummer AJ Pero. Under The Blade first came out on an independent UK based label called Secret Records, but really gained momentum when Atlantic Records released a different mix of the album nationally in 1985 while taking advantage of the bands newly minted stardom. Their meteoric ascent came in tandem with the simultaneous rise of MTV. This version you now have in your hands is the most requested and sought after. The new digital re-mastered original mix of Under the Blade.

SHOW REVIEW: MOTORHEAD, CLUTCH, VALIENT THORR, The Fillmore Charlotte, NC 2010-03-05
by admin on Mar.10, 2011, under news
MOTORHEAD
CLUTCH
VALIENT THORR
The Fillmore
Charlotte, NC
2010-03-05
Do you know how long it has been since Motorhead played in the South? Longer than I’ve lived here I’m fairly certain. I know this because I had to travel to NYC to see them a few years ago. It has something to do with the fact that Motorhead plays to tens of thousands in Europe and just thousands here and apparently less in the South. Lemmy is not willing to take a hit to the wallet to play to smaller crowds so they don’t tour the South, or so I am told.
Well, hell must have frozen over, pigs have grown wings, Democrats are in the White House, or Elvis rose from the dead. Whatever the reason, the South got a couple of Motorhead shows finally.
The Fillmore in Charlotte is a nice venue, it’s been open a year I believe and the décor and layout is nice. The bar staff have received numerous complaints I’ve heard since day one about being slow. This was my first experience at the venue and I am sad to say that the reports of slow bar staff are not exaggerated. There is a bar in the back corner that had a line ALL THE WAY ALONG THE BACK WALL OF THE VENUE. No lie, the line stretched the length of the venue! The bar I was at had four lines for two bartenders and took me 30 minutes for a bottle of water. So, if you do go to the Fillmore in Charlotte North Carolina be sure to get your drink and hydration on before you get there.
The opening act is a band you have hopefully heard of already, VALIENT THORR. If not, please, do yourself a favor and go pick up a CD or two of theirs and familiarize yourself with one of the best balls out Rock & Roll bands slugging it out on the road today. I could spend the majority of this review on Valient Thorr’s set alone. It was that strong. When was the last time you saw an opening act jump into the pit to get the audience to get down on their knees with him and ‘throw their energy at the stage’? Hell when was the last time you saw a Motorhead crowd be won over by an opening act? Sure Charlotte was almost like a home town show for the boys who crash landed in Chapel Hill North Carolina, but this was a Motorhead crowd first and foremost and a Clutch crowd second. Based on the response from the crowd when the band took the stage, third place was far behind second by at least a thousand people. But come the end of their set and damned if the boys in VT didn’t have the crowd screaming along with them and howling their appreciation at them.
I thought CLUTCH was kind of an odd support act for Motorhead. Known for their stoner rock style jams and sometimes semi laid back sound I wasn’t sure they’d come across well to a Motorhead crowd. I figured if anything the Clutch guys would pull out their hardest, fastest, and heaviest tunes to try and ‘keep up’. Well, silly me, Clutch is Clutch. And Clutch will do what Clutch will do. And not only did they NOT play their hardest, fastest material, just to prove me wrong they grooved for most of their set. And from what I could tell the crowd didn’t mind at all and rocked the hell right out with them, I’m not sure because it was the first Clutch show I’ve seen in a long time that I could really enjoy without distraction as I was not working. So I was up in that shit and loving it.
Jesus, what can you say about a Motorhead show? I mean if you’ve never been, then you must be strongly cautioned to bring hearing protection. Not that it helps. I had professional plugs in, and it STILL HURT to be in front of the PA, and I was at the sound booth with at least 1,000 people between me and the PA!
I wrote a review of the first time I saw them 6 years ago in NYC, and said then that while I was never a big fan, I enjoyed their music at times. I just never got that whole ‘Lemmy is God’ thing. Until they took the stage, and Lemmy grunted out the opening to every Motorhead show for who knows how many years now, ‘We’re Motorhead, and we play Rock & Roll!’ The band launches into the opening song and your jaw hits the floor. Just as your ears begin to bleed from the insanity inducing pummeling they’re taking from the loudness of the PA. Motorhead gives you everything you could want in their set. They play the standards, the hits (well maybe not hits per se, but the most famous and popular Motorhead songs), and a dose of the latest album they are touring for. And you’d think that with the volume being so loud that you wouldn’t be able to tell what the hell song it was so who cares what they are playing, well, you’d be wrong. Considering that the sound level had to be that of 2 jets taking off in close quarters simultaneously (or LOUDER!), you could hear Lemmy over the roar crystal clear. Ok, so as crystal clear as Lemmy ever is. His voice is there laying on top of it all, even if you aren’t sure what he is saying to begin with.
Like I said, you get everything you could hope for from a Motorhead show. Ace of Spades, Killed by Death, The Chase Is Better than the Catch, and Overkill, along with the new stuff off Motorizer and The World Is Yours. You get one of the legendary frontmen of all times, the savagely underrated guitar work of Phil Campbell, and the Animal antics and brutal drum sound of Mikkey Dee. And even if you DO use hearing protection, you still walk away with just a little less than you had when you came in. But, that’s a Motorhead show, it is LOUDER THAN EVERYTHING ELSE, it is the loudest spectacle in Rock & Roll. And hopefully it will be returning to the South again very soon.

SLIM JIM’s Top Ten List Of 2010
by admin on Dec.16, 2010, under editorials, reviews
Slim Jim’s Top Ten of 2010
SHOOTER JENNINGS – Black Ribbons
The 70’s big classic rock – ball trippin’ – brain smokin’ – ear melting heavy tuneage of old is not dead. Shooter Jennings has created the heaviest album of 2010. In pure sonic fury, huge epicness, and massive songwriting. This isn’t Outlaw Country, This isn’t your daddy’s classic rock, this is Shooter Jennings and Hierophant (his band) racing along your brainwaves, fucking with all you thought you knew about music, and tainting what may come in the future. Take a little WHITE STRIPES, sprinkle some MUSE, add a dash of BLACK KEYS, smoke it with some Pink Floyd and dose repeatedly with Shooter himself, and you’ll get Black Ribbons. While the music will kick your ass, the lyrics will fuck with your brain, and the whole experience will make you think this whole fucked up industry could simply be saved if they’d just put out more solid music like this. This album should propel Shooter into Arenas and onto your grid faster than the clap takes hold of your sad tiny withered cock. But it seems the world would rather listen to the likes of sluts like Ke$ha, or 16 year old pubescent boys like Beiber than embrace the monster that is Shooter and Hierophant. WAKE UP people… If you haven’t experienced Black Ribbons… GO NOW. Do it here. You’ll thank me later. Oh, yes, Don’t Feed The Animals… And… FUCK YOU I’m FAMOUS. Did I mention there are 20 songs on this disc? 20! All of them will fuck with you, tie you in psychedelic knots and drip musical ecstasy semen out of your earholes. And don’t forget the indelible STEPHEN KING. Oh yeah, how could I forgot the title track Black Ribbons? It is quite simply the best Bruce Springsteen song that he never wrote.
ELEPAHNT MOUNTAIN – The Last Days of Planet Earth
Joe Altier and Slider from BRAND NEW SIN reunite to form ELEPHANT MOUNTAIN. The best Southern tinged Hard Rock album of the last year or three, and they hail from SYRACUSE, NY! If you’ve heard of BRAND NEW SIN, and have heard their first two records, then you’ll know exactly what ELEPHANT MOUNTAIN sounds like. And you’ll love it. You can spread the herd here.
THE BLACK KEYS – Brothers
Raw. Stripped. Deeper grooves than the ones fading on your wrist. Monochromed Stereophonically challenged. Bluesier than 20 quarts of Papa’s Jambalaya. More soulful than the most devout Methodist. The more I listen to this the more I want to go find all my ex’s. And slap the unloving chaos addicted shit out of them. The ultimate break up album. As it spins right now, I’m thinking it should move UP my top ten list. Fuck it. Ten Cent Pistol just reinforced the fact. And this is now my #3 best album of 2010 (As I originally wrote this, it was set at 7). You can join the Brothers here.
FILTER – The Trouble with Angels
An amazing return for FILTER. Raw, punishing, beautiful. Read my original review here.
ACCEPT – Blood of the Nations
Another reunion of sorts for ACCEPT. A new singer and a new lease on life. A great album that reminds us all why ACCEPT are Fast as a Shark. Read my original review here.
DISTRUBED – Asylum
More melodic than the past albums. More straight forward guitar solos than before. And more David Draiman. What more could you ask from a DISTURBED album? You can join the Asylum here.
SLASH – Slash
Slash gets a bunch of singers to sing on his album instead of going around singing on theirs. Great songs, great singers like Myles Kennedy (ALTER BRIDGE), Lemmy (MOTORHEAD), Ian Astbury (THE CULT), Ozzy, Chris Cornell (AUDIOSLAVE, SOUNDGARDEN), and many more. The most notable standout track and singer is Fergie (FERGIE, BLACK EYED PEAS) on the track Beautiful Dangerous. The woman should be singing balls out Rock N Roll all the time, not this pop pap shit with BEP. She has a great voice and holds her own amongst the more traditional and legendary vocalists on this album. You can get Slashed here.
AVENGED SEVENFOLD – Nightmare
Never a big A7X fan. But after seeing them this year at the Rockstar Uproar Festival with Disturbed I found a new respect for them as a live band. I figured out my problem with the band. M. Shadows has a good voice, but as he sings about dark lyrics, and leads the crowd into chants of ‘fuck you’ his voice has a rather high range to it. Making the music seem lighter and more lilting than the lyrics therefore belying the heaviness of the music. At times making it seem rather jokish or tongue in cheek. However after seeing their amazing performance live, I now get it. And can move past the vocal issue. The album is their best by far. Blazing guitars you’ve come to expect, full stream riffs crunch and chunk along getting your head and feet involved tapping along. Definitely deserving of anyone’s top ten list. You can become the Nightmare here.
EXODUS – Exhibit B: The Human Condition
EXODUS simple continues to pummel you into submission with their latest album. It is the fourth album in their return that does not fail to impress. The one drawback may simply be Rob Dukes‘ dry vocal style. But the brutal beating that you endure while listening to the album more than makes up for the lack of dimensions in his voice. Albums 6 – 10 will continue to beat the ever loving fuck out of your brain and spleen. I have no doubts about this. The band has never sounded better, tighter, or more focused than here. Which can only mean great things on the horizon for us fans. You can witness the Human Condition here.
DEATH ANGEL – Relentless Retribution
Any year is a good year when DEATH ANGEL releases a new album. The most important part of this is that the band promises to tour endlessly for this release. So that means we get more live Death Angel than ever before. And this boys and girls is a good thing. You can read my original review here.

A new official teaser from Lemmy, the highly anticipated film exploring the life and career of rock icon and MOTÖRHEAD frontman Lemmy Kilmister, has been released.
Lemmy received its official UK premiere on Saturday, October 23rd at 9PM at the London Film Festival at NFT1 BFI South Bank.
Lemmy will be released on two-disc DVD and Blu-Ray by Entertainment One in the UK on January 24, 2011.
At long last, details of the U.S. release of LEMMY are here. After thrilling fans at film festivals the world over, the critically acclaimed film will hit theaters in select U.S. cities (mostly major markets) starting in mid-January. On Feb. 15th, LEMMY will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray and will be offered as a digital download.
The DVD will span two discs, and will include four hours of bonus material, more than is being offered in any other country. And, we promise, it’s all killer, no filler. It is designed to be a treasure trove of everything Lemmy.
Lemmy made its world premier in March 2010 during South by Southwest (SXSW) Film and Music Festival in Austin, TX.
