SANTANA Live at Montreux 2011 DVD/Blu-Ray to be released February 21st
by admin on Feb.09, 2012, under news
Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Santana Live At Montreux 2011 on a 2DVD set and Blu-ray in a exhilarating set of jazz, Latin, funk, soul and rock ‘n’ roll. The 23-song show weighs heavily on the side of the songs that fans of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist (inducted in 1998) have loved over the years.
Filmed in high-definition and recorded in DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital 5.1 and LPCM Stereo, it’s a total jam-packed evening of percolating percussion, soaring lead guitar solos and the kind of funky bass/drum action that has kept this band in the forefront of popular music for over 40 years.
Live At Montreux 2011 is a career-spanning show that covers all the bases: from Tito Puente‘s “Oye Como Va,” Fleetwood Mac‘s “Black Magic Woman,” Babatunde Olatunji‘s “Jingo” and Willie Bobo‘s “Evil Ways” to John Coltrane‘s “A Love Supreme.” Carlos Santana has always had a knack for making his cover versions become spectacularly his own. His interpretive flair reached its zenith with 2010′s Guitar Heaven which contains his scintillating take on Cream‘s “Sunshine Of Your Love.” Add his numerous originals, including “Smooth” and “Maria Maria,” his signature style of inspired and spiritual guitar playing and you have the kind of DVD that burns with intensity.
Extras include interviews with Carlos and Cindy Blackman Santana, and a very special peek behind-the-scenes. Guest artists include the husband/wife guitar team of Susan Tedeschi and Allman Brother Derek Trucks as well as drummer/wife Cindy Blackman Santana. Over three hours long, this is the Santana concert his fans have been waiting for!

DVD Review – STYX: The Grand Illusion/Pieces Of Eight Live

The Grand Illusion/Pieces Of Eight Live

Eagle Rock Entertainment
8 out of 10
STYX puts on one hell of a live show. They have more hits than you might think, and when they do a standard ‘greatest hits’ show, you are blown away not only by how many hits they’ve had, but by the sheer musicianship and epic songwriting skills the Chicago Prog Rock band has. Yes I said Prog Rock. They may not be as spacey as Pink Floyd or as intricate as Rush, but they were one of the greatest Prog Rock bands of the 70’s.
The Grand Illusion was released in 1977 and is still their best selling album (according to them). The songwriting on this opus ranges from grandiose and bombastic to sheer brilliance. The opening title track The Grand Illusion shows off their writing skills as much as it does their musicianship and it is one hell of a way to open an album let alone a live show. Flowing right into Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man) the crowd is on their feet rocking out and transported back to a time where huge epic songs ruled the airwaves and the charts.
The show starts out with a video screen showing an homage to the Star Wars opening in space with the yellow letters taking us back to 1977. It then cuts to a young man’s bedroom where he is shuffling through his stack of LPs (you remember those right? Vinyl baby, old school!), until he finds The Grand Illusion. He puts it on the turn table, grabs his head phones, and the band kick into the intro to The Grand Illusion.
The hits just keep on coming with Come Sail Away and Miss America. With Castle Walls being an amazing stand out live, you tend to forget what an incredible album The Grand Illusion was from beginning to end until it is right there in your face.
After a short intermission, we go back to the video and the young man putting Pieces Of Eight on. The second half of the concert is really for the old school STYX fans. While Pieces Of Eight has its hits like Blue Collar Man (Long Nights) and the perennial Renegade, the rest of the album may not be as familiar to the radio fans of STYX.
STYX released Pieces Of Eight in 1978 marking a very prolific time in the history of STYX. Once The Grand Illusion took off, it rocketed the band from the clubs, to opening for KANSAS, to headlining Arenas before they took a short break to record and release Pieces Of Eight.
I’ve seen STYX live at least 5 times over as many years, though I missed this particular tour unfortunately. They are consummate musicians and throw a great party when they are on stage. And to take two albums, dust off songs that they have never played live before, and put them out there thirty some odd years later, and be as entertaining as they are is no mean feat.
The music comes across great in this Blu Ray release and the surround sound will give you goose bumps at times when they go into Castle Walls, Renegade, or Miss America. The camera work was a little annoying however, in that every third shot was out of focus! At first I thought I was imagining it, and then I thought maybe they were trying to be artsy with it. Then I realized, the camera men were simply shooting it out of focus most of the time. Other than the video editing and camera work, it is definitely a must have for the hard core STYX fans. And if you are only a radio fan of STYX, this is a great place to start to learn more about them, where their music came from, and why 30 plus years later they are STILL all over Classic Rock stations around the world.

THE DOORS Mr. Mojo Risin’ – The Story of L.A. Woman DVD/Blu Ray to be released on January 24
by admin on Dec.01, 2011, under news
Fans of iconic rock band THE DOORS are in for something special. The group’s final album–1971′s L.A. WOMAN, with the signature hits “L.A. Woman,” “Love Her Madly” and “Riders On The Storm“–is being celebrated with a special two-CD release from Rhino and a behind-the-scenes DVD/Blu-ray from Eagle Rock Entertainment.
The L.A. WOMAN 40th anniversary edition (Rhino 2-CD) features a never-before-heard song, “She Smells So Nice,” which captures the band–organist RAY MANZAREK, guitarist ROBBY KRIEGER, drummer JOHN DENSMORE and late singer JIM MORRISON–joyfully barreling through a full-throttle original before segueing into the blues standard “Rock Me.” As the song closes, Morrison can be heard chanting, “Mr. Mojo Risin‘”–an anagram of his name that was made famous during the bridge of “L.A. Woman.” Recently discovered by producer Bruce Botnick while reviewing the L.A. WOMAN session tapes, a teaser clip of “She Smells So Nice” can be heard here.
In addition to “She Smells So Nice,” the second disc of the L.A. WOMAN reissue includes eight never-before-heard versions of songs from the album. Alternate takes of “L.A. Woman,” “Love Her Madly” and “Riders On The Storm” offer a fresh view on this landmark album, which was the group’s sixth straight Top 10. The studio chatter between the songs is a revelation, transporting listeners to The Doors Workshop: the West Hollywood rehearsal space where they recorded the album with Botnick. One segment in particular captures a fascinating moment of inspiration when Morrison suggests they add the now-iconic thunderstorm sound effects to the beginning of “Riders On The Storm.” Rhino will also release L.A. WOMAN: THE WORKSHOP SESSIONS, a double LP featuring all of the previously unreleased material found on the CD collection on three sides of vinyl, with the fourth side featuring a laser etching of the original “Electric Woman” art originally included with the L.A. WOMAN album.
“Mr. Mojo Risin’: The Story of L.A. Woman“(Eagle Rock Entertainment DVD/Blu-ray) is told through new interviews with MANZAREK, KRIEGER and DENSMORE as well as Elektra Records founder JAC HOLZMAN, original manager BILL SIDDONS, engineer/co-producer BRUCE BOTNICK and others. The high-definition video also features live and studio performances as well as rare archival photos. This fascinating documentary contains rare footage of THE DOORS in the studio and on stage. The documentary was made with the full involvement, approval and cooperation of THE DOORS.
“The Year of The Doors” will be marked by other special releases, with details to be announced soon.
L.A. WOMAN marked THE DOORS‘ swan song, as MORRISON would pass away a few months after its release.

The sound on the 2CD set—DTS Surround Sound, Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital Stereo—is superb. Included on the DVD and Blu-Ray is a bonus in-depth band interview. Such classics as “Highway Star,” “Strange Kind of Woman,” “Lazy,” “Perfect Strangers,” “Hush,” “Woman From Tokyo,” “Black Night,” “Smoke On The Water” and 11 other gems, as performed with the orchestral sweep behind them, certainly spurred the band on. Ian Gillan (vocals), Ian Paice (drums), Roger Glover (bass), Steve Morse (guitar) and Don Airey (keyboards) can be seen visibly pleased with the results of the orchestra, as directed by Stephen “BK” Bentley-Klein.

Filmed in high-definition in 2004, Live At Budokan captures the dean of progressive modern rock bands in support of its Train Of Thought album. The 18-song concert– captured in DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound–reprises most of that album, as well as a generous portion of the band’s most cherished material, including their 1992 breakthrough single “Pull Me Under.” Over four hours long, Live At Budokan will be cause for celebration amongst the band’s rabid international fanbase. by admin on Oct.03, 2011, under news
Eagle Rock Entertainment is proud to announce the October 18 release of Queensrÿche: Mindcrime At The Moore — the first Queensrÿche Blu-Ray ever.
Filmed in front of the band’s hometown crowd in Seattle over three nights in 2006, the story of Nikki, as originally told on two albums—1988’s Operation: Mindcrime and 2006’s Operation: Mindcrime II —is the story of one of the most enigmatic characters in the history of Progressive Rock. Nikki’s a junkie, a political revolutionary and an assassin. His relationships with Sister Mary and the manipulative Dr. X form the backbone of a complex tale that is told at the Moore Theater with actors, staging and film.

The band—vocalist Geoff Tate, drummer Scott Rockenfield, bassist Eddie Jackson and guitarists Michael Wilton/Mike Stone—are augmented by Pamela Moore as Sister Mary and the aforementioned Dio who only performed as Dr. X that one time and was shown on film for the rest of the tour.
The 32-song concert ends with an additional two-song encore of fan favorites “Jet City Woman” and “Walk In The Shadows.” The two critically acclaimed Mindcrime albums have sold over two million copies in North America alone.

CREAM: Royal Albert Hall London 2005 Blu-Ray to be released October 11th
by admin on Sep.22, 2011, under news
Eagle Rock Entertainment is proud to announce the release of Cream: Royal Albert Hall London 2005 on Blu-Ray on October 11. These songs, recorded in Dolby Digital 5.1/DTS-HD Master Audio, taken from four nights’ worth, prove Cream’s unerring sense of timing and drama remained intact. It was so good, in fact, they did what nobody ever thought they’d do: reunite for a stateside tour. And it all started here.
This epic 19-song high-definition reunion concert of guitarist/vocalist Eric Clapton, bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker—who hadn’t played together in nearly 40 years—comes complete with an additional three bonus tracks: alternate versions of “Sleepy Time Time,” “We’re Going Wrong” and “Sunshine Of Your Love.” Interviews with all three legends make up the remainder of this historic two-hour and 47-minute classic.
Cream’s four studio albums – Fresh Cream, Disraeli Gears, Wheels Of Fire, and Goodbye – were all successful, and yielded numerous hit singles. Still, it was their incendiary and revolutionary approach to live performance that made them stand out head and shoulders above their peers. This very special chemistry can be felt on Cream: Royal Albert Hall London 2005.
Despite being together originally from only 1966 to 1968, these three not only set the standard for power trios but became god-like to their fans in their virtuosity and intricate bombastic jamming. The interplay between the three of them—all three soloing simultaneously!—was like nothing that had ever came before. To even the surprise and delight of the musicians themselves, that bond did not break through the decades.

TWISTED SISTER to release 2 DVD double live North Stage 82 and NY Steel 01
by admin on Jul.11, 2011, under news
On July 26, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Twisted Sister Double Live: North Stage ’82, NY Steel ’01, a double-disc DVD package consisting of two Twisted Sister concerts, 19 years apart. Over three hours of the most Twisted rock’n’roll and heavy metal ever!
In 1982, Twisted Sister was the wildest, most outrageous club band on the Long Island, New York scene. As a goodbye to their loyal fans just prior to the band crossing the Atlantic to record its groundbreaking Under The Blade debut album, guitarists Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda, vocalist Dee Snider, bassist Mark Mendoza and drummer A.J. Pero performed at The North Stage Theater on Long Island. This incendiary concert footage—in its entirety—represents the only commercially-released video performances of long-retired club favorites “Lady’s Boy” and “I’ll Never Grow Up” among the 14 stand-out tracks. The disc comes complete with brand new interviews from all five musicians about their feelings as they left the New York club scene to become an international phenomenon.
In 2001, with New York City reeling from the effects of September 11, Twisted Sister, who hadn’t played together for 13 years, were approached by Metal radio personality/promoter Eddie Trunk who asked if they’d headline “New York Steel” to benefit the families of those firefighters and police officers who lost their lives. Putting aside personal difficulties for the good of the cause, the band started rehearsing. Scenes of those rehearsals, as well as profound new interviews chronicling the intense inter-band chemistry, are revealing and fascinating. When Trunk introduced the band that night, with New York Mets baseball hero Mike Piazza at his side, the reaction was so spectacular, the seeds were planted for a return to form that continues to this day.

On June 28, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Live At Wembley simultaneously on DVD, Blu-Ray & CD, through its Eagle Vision & Eagle Records imprints.
There was magic in the air as all three original Bad Company members—vocalist extraordinaire Paul Rodgers, guitarist Mick Ralphs and drummer Simon Kirke—are augmented by bassist Lynn Sorensen and guitarist Howard Leese. (Original bassist Boz Burrell died in 2006.)

They lived up to the hype for nine straight years with a string of six soulful hard-rocking albums. ZZ TOP releases Live In Germany 1980 for first time on CD
by admin on May.29, 2011, under news
For the first time on CD, on May 31, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release ZZ Top Live in Germany 1980. This 16-song Texas manifesto features guitarist Billy F Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard and bassist Dusty Hill, in an onstage explosion of barrelhouse jump blues and boogie.
The Grugahalle in Essen was rockin’ on that night in 1980. ZZ Top, touring in support of 1979’s Deguello, is totally energized on nine of Deguello’s tracks, complemented by fan favorites from Tres Hombres (1973) and Fandango (1975), as well as righteous roots-reverent covers of Elmore James and Elvis Presley. (The concert was filmed for German television’s popular Rockpalast program and released on DVD as Double Down Live in 2009.)
Rock’n’Roll Hall Of Famers ZZ Top have never had a personnel change over the course of their 40-year career. These instantly-recognizable musicians are larger-than-life, their image clearly defined in American pop culture. They’re known as much for their dedication to the blues as they are for their self-designed custom-made guitars. Whether kicking off the MTV generation in 1983 with their groundbreaking videos or continuing to put on world class shows today, ZZ Top are as pioneering now as they ever were, yet still mindful of all who came before them in the glorious longtime tradition of this great music.

DUFF McKAGAN’s LOADED’s Sick to be re-released on May 24th
by admin on May.16, 2011, under news
With the wild buzz of Duff McKagan’s Loaded’s new CD The Taking (released April 19), Eagle Rock Entertainment, through its Armoury Records subsidiary, is re-issuing a special edition of the band’s second album Sick on May 24.
The album, originally released in 2009 to critical acclaim, strikes a precarious balance at the juncture of metal, punk and grunge. The specially-packaged double-disc comes complete with two additional bonus tracks on the CD—“Roll Away” and an acoustic version of “Wasted Heart”—plus a 94-minute bonus DVD featuring the band in full force from The Garage in 2008 Glasgow, Scotland. The DVD also features the band’s “No More” music video and five “webisodes,” four on the making of Sick and one of the ‘08 UK tour.
Originally formed in 1998, Loaded is fronted by Grammy/American Music Award-winning songwriter/recording artist/bassist Duff McKagan – a founding member of Guns ‘N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver. With Duff stepping up to the front as lead vocalist and guitarist, bassist Jeff Rouse picks up the low end duties. Guitarist Mike Squires and drummer Geoff Reading round out the band line-up on Sick (Reading was replaced by drummer Isaac Carpenter before the release of The Taking).
