UNLEASHED declare title of new album to be Odalheim!
by admin on Jan.30, 2012, under news
Legendary Swedish Viking death metal masters UNLEASHED have declared the title of their upcoming album to be Odalheim. Odalheim was recorded at the Chrome Studio in Sweden and produced by UNLEASHED guitarist Fredrik Folkare. The record will be released on April 20 (Europe) and April 24, 2012 (North America) via Nuclear Blast.
“And Yggdrasil did tremble,” commented the band. “And during the three years of everlasting cold and darkness called the Fimbulwinter, Mother Nature took back what was rightfully hers and life as we knew it was never the same again. It was Ragnarök, liberator and death. From the ashes of the old world, a new one began to take form. Here is where the story of Odalheim begins…”

BONDED BY BALOFF on track to sell out
by admin on Jan.30, 2012, under news
For those who were either born too late or living in the wrong part of the world while music which has now become legendary was exploding from the Bay Area’s thrash metal scene in the early-to-mid 1980s, here’s your second chance to re-live history.
With a very special All Ages show marking the 10-year anniversary of former EXODUS singer Paul “Pavel” Baloff’s passing, “Bonded By Baloff: A Decade Of Remembrance” will take place at the Oakland Metro Operahouse on Saturday, February 4th, 2012 and features the evening’s headliners EXODUS plus POSSESSED, FORBIDDEN, HEATHEN, and MAD AT SAM on the Main Stage. Playing the Second Stage are ANGERHEAD, MUDFACE, THE VENTING MACHINE, HELLFIRE, and HYSTERIA.
The evening is well on its way to being a SOLD-OUT event and may very well turn into the second installment of the recent Bazillion Points book Murder in the Front Row (which can be purchased here), so don’t miss out!
Of the event, EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt has previously stated:
“[We] knew it was high time we do something special to remember the legend of Paul Baloff, so we decided to put together a show the Bay Area will not soon forget. There are some nice surprises in store as well! It will be ten years and two days since the thrash world lost one of its greatest frontmen ever, and we will always make sure his memory lives on and is never forgotten. Long live The Destroyer!”
Advanced tickets for “Bonded By Baloff: A Decade Of Remembrance” can be purchased at this location.
WARBRINGER’s Adam Carroll leaves, Andrew Bennett steps in
by admin on Jan.30, 2012, under news
As WARBRINGER begins their North American tour supporting ICED EARTH and SYMPHONY X this week, it has been revealed that longtime guitarist Adam Carroll has decided to leave the band and last weekend’s shows supporting DEATH ANGEL were his last.
“To all fans and friends, I, Adam Carroll, have officially quit WARBRINGER. I have financial issues at home that have to be addressed sooner than later. I hope you all can understand and respect my decision. It’s been some of the best years of my life and I appreciate all the support you the fans have given us and continue to give. I will forever be part of the WARBRINGER family. Many thanks and until I see the rest of you again, keep the metal alive. Cheers!”
The band enlisted friend and talented, young guitarist Andrew Bennett for the purpose of filling in live for this tour with the hope that he may become a permanent member of the group as he continues his audition process where it matters most– on the stage and in the van.
Comments Andrew Bennett, “Last month I received a message from the guys, which basically stated that Adam was requesting to step out. As a result, they were searching for a possible replacement who could learn the material in time for the upcoming ICED EARTH and SYMPHONY X tour. I jumped at the opportunity and started learning some tracks. Around the beginning of this month I went down and jammed with the guys and the rest is history. I am eternally grateful to my friends in WARBRINGER for giving me the opportunity to play with them and I am very excited about what the future may hold. But, one thing that I would like to make clear is that I don’t view myself as Adam’s replacement, as much as I view myself as filling the position instead of him. Adam‘s work with the band and time with them is not something that can be erased and I would just like to make it clear that I respect him greatly. He has left big shoes to fill and I have a lot of work ahead of me if I am going to honor his legacy with the band. I’m looking forward to interacting with, and playing for the fans on the road! It’s time to shred!”

R.I.P. RIOT’s Mark Reale
by admin on Jan.26, 2012, under news
A message from the band:
“To friends and fans of Mark Reale and Riot, we are deeply saddened to confirm that Mark has lost his battle with a lifelong illness. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated by Mark’s family, friends, and bandmates at this difficult time.”
Riot guitarist Mark Reale has died in Texas at the age of 56.
The heavy metal musician passed away at a hospital in San Antonio on Wednesday after suffering complications relating to Crohn’s disease, a condition he battled for many years.
Reports suggest the star also suffered bleeding in his brain earlier this month and spent the last two weeks in a coma.
Reale rose to fame with the band in the 1970s after forming the group with drummer Peter Bitelli, later recruiting bassist Phil Feit and singer Guy Speranza, who died from pancreatic cancer in 2003.
Guitarist Mike Flyntz recently stood in for Reale when he was unable to attend recording sessions for their latest album.
Reale had been in a coma since January 11th due to a subarachnoid hemorrhage. He had battled Crohn’s for most of his life, working and performing while enduring almost constant pain and the side effects of treatment for his illness. He was in Texas bravely attempting to practice for the band’s scheduled shows, but was felled by a severe onset of Crohn’s symptoms, which eventually put him in the Intensive Care Unit.

Friday, January 20, 2012 – Rams Head Live, Baltimore, MD
Photos by Marcy J Royce
Just one sentence is all that is necessary to preface this show review. Watching incredibly talented musicians perform is why I love what I do, and Alice Anna is one of those bands in which I can’t get enough. Period. That’s all. Nothing else needs to be written.
Seriously though. I’ve missed seeing Alice Anna in those few months since last saw them in September 2011. I’ve had their music in constant rotation on my iPod. And I’ve purchased the subsequent songs of Awake, Look Into These Eyes, and Carry Me Away. These are the teaser songs for the next cd to be released. I was extremely excited when I found out that in December they would be spending a good amount of time in New York with their producer Jeremy. Good things are coming, I can feel it. I cannot wait to get my hands on the new release to review it for away-team and report back to you.
But for now the fans of Alice Anna will just have to see their band live to fulfill their need of great music performed by wonderful musicians and artists. I was glad to be there front and center once again for this show. The crowd was bigger it seemed. Or it could have been because more people wanted closer to the stage. Not sure which. I do know that enthusiastic fans were jamming out and bumping into me almost constantly, fists in the air, singing and dancing along to their favorite songs. I made sure to move around and capture each member, trying to showcase them in my photos the best that I could. Arms in the air make it hard sometimes, ha ha.
After half the set was over, I made my way behind the sound and light area. I switched lenses. Then I caught myself just letting the music wash over me. Alice Anna’s music just does that to me. Really makes me stop whatever I’m doing and just take in every note and every lyric. And much to my delight the dual drum solo happened. YAY ME! I have a thing for drummers and then when you put two in front of me like that, oh my. Pure ecstasy. Pure rhythmic precision. It was a great moment for all the fans.
I was able to capture and record the first song of the encore. Click here for the video:
As the set sadly ended to soon for me, I made my way around the room. I pleasantly bumped into Hunter Shafer’s father, Brady. We had a wonderful chat. Thanks for stopping me to say hi Brady. It was a true pleasure. As I gazed through the thick crowd, I finally found Dan. I wanted to collect on that goodbye hug I missed out on in September. I just love Dan. He’s so warm, sweet and very personable. It was like two friends who had not seen each other in months. A big, big hug and a kiss on the cheek. And that quick his fans needed him, he was wisked away. So great to see that.
Check out all that is ALICE ANNA at their site: http://www.aliceannamusic.com/. There you will find information on news, bio, photos and shows. And if you are in the area they are playing, GO. You must check them out. I’m so glad I did again! Special thanks to Shauna O’Donnell at MUEN Public Relations and Promotion for helping to make it happen.
