Nothing More Promo 2014Our top contenders for 2014 Album Of The Year are at it again! After “This Is The Time (Ballast)” garnered them so many views on YouTube that even Roger Goodell has seen the video, NOTHING MORE are back with a new video for their upcoming single “Mr. MTV”, and not surprisingly it does not disappoint!

NOTHING MORE burst onto the scene last year when their performance on the second stage of the 2013 Aftershock Festival earned them the unheard of honor of being asked to perform on day two, on the main stage.  The buzz generated from those performances quickly earned them a 5 album guaranteed deal from Eleven Seven Music.  In June of this year the band released their eponymous debut to rave reviews (including the top nod for Album Of The Year from Yours Truly), and has since rocketed to stardom and a #1 spot on the  Active Rock Radio Charts.  Don’t take my word for it, check out the video for “Mr. MTV” below, and see why NOTHING MORE will be dominating the airwaves for years to come!

Virginia’s long running epic metal legends are commemorating their 25th year of existence with the release of their sixth studio album, Suspended At Aphelion. The album will be released digitally via Nuclear Blast on November 18th. Ambitious, epic, and progressive, the album is comprised of a single track divided into 11 parts and is performed by the entire Fear Of Infinity line-up as well as several esteemed guests, including two FATES WARNING alumni that unite two eras of the band for the first time ever: drummer Mark Zonder and co-founding guitarist Victor Arduini.

WHILE HEAVEN WEPT guitarist & songwriter Tom Phillips shares more insight on the album:

while heaven weptWhile most of our albums have been thematic, this is the first time we’ve released something entirely of a conceptual nature in the grand tradition of PINK FLOYD, GENESIS, RUSH, MARILLION, IRON MAIDEN, KING DIAMOND, QUEENSRYCHE, and of course FATES WARNING. Musically, this album falls somewhere in the middle of all of that with a touch of Viking-era BATHORY as well.”

While the signature sound of WHILE HEAVEN WEPT remains fully intact, the band has evolved. Phillips explains:

We’ve always been characterized by emotional sincerity, bombast, sweeping melodies, and dense orchestration. Suspended At Aphelion is no exception – however, this really is another level for us in that it’s the first album featuring all-new material composed in this decade (as opposed to previous releases which often culled from years of archival material). It’s full of twists, turns, modulations, time changes, harmonic content rarely heard in metal, and tons of counterpoint. This is all augmented by actual cellos, violins, classical guitars, an array of percussion, and genuine analog synths.”

Over the last few years, we’ve had some audiophiles reaching out to us regarding the ‘loudness wars,’” Phillips continues, “so we were very much committed to delivering an album with a wide dynamic range, with very little peak reduction or compression… ensuring it was as dynamic and organic as possible versus being Pro-Tooled to death or overtly compressed/limited for loudness…not unlike our labelmates SATYRICON, who definitely impacted our approach to Suspended At Aphelion. So you may have to turn it up compared to ‘X album’ from 2014, but we feel like this epic journey is even more gratifying because of this.

“‘Icarus And I’ is Part 2 out of 11 and establishes the foundation of Suspended At Aphelion’s plot: The pursuit of the sun with passion and vigor, only to succumb to the reality that it is beyond reach,” explains Philips. “That is really what Suspended At Aphelion is all about: Being instead condemned to the furthest point from the sun… the failure to achieve the dream despite all the faith, hope, spirit, strength, and heart any one of us could muster. And musically, there are so many more twists, turns, modulations, so much more madness that follows this. It’s impossible to represent the totality of this song with any individual part; however, ‘Icarus And I’ was the inception of what we feel is the most gratifying journey in the history of WHILE HEAVEN WEPT.

The track listing for Suspended At Aphelion is:
I: Introspectus
II: Icarus And I
III: Ardor
IV: Heartburst
V: Indifference Turned Paralysis
VI: The Memory Of Bleeding
VII: Souls In Permafrost
VIII: Searching The Stars
IX: Reminiscence Of Strangers
X: Lifelines Lost
XI: Retrospectus

exodus blood in blood outWhenever we play with any Bay Area band, we always put a little bit extra,” admits guitarist Lee Altus of Bay Area thrashers EXODUS. “If you wanna really see EXODUS at their best, it’s always with another Bay Area band – like DEATH ANGEL. We have this friendly competition, too. They know – anytime you play with us, we’re going after you! After that, we’ll have drinks together… we’ll laugh about it… but right now, we’re going after you! Oh, now we’re playing with TESTAMENT? I’m gonna DIE on that stage!!!

In the second of five exclusive trailers on GUITAR WORLD.com that showcases material from the bonus “Making Of” DVD entitled “Blood Upon The Goat,Altus reveals that he wrote the tracks “Honor Killings” and “Body Harvest” appearing on the band’s tenth studio album, Blood In, Blood Out, due out in North America on October 14th. The bonus DVD is included in the album’s digi-pak and import box set versions.

Hot off the heels of the monster debut of Space Invader, Ace Frehley has announced his touring lineup for the first leg of tour dates, his first U.S. shows in four years, which will be announced next week. Frehley adds comment:

I can’t wait to hit the road again with this new lineup. I’ll be performing Ace classics as well as songs off my new CD ‘Space Invader’ for the enjoyment of the fans. Let There Be Rock!”

Ace FrehleyThe 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee has tapped none other than Richie Scarlet, who rode shotgun performing rhythm guitar and vocal duties on Ace’s “Trouble Walking” platter in 1989, and will do so again on stage. Ritchie toured with Ace in 1984 and 1985 and periodically from 1989 through 1995 and was also known for touring with Sebastian Bach.

On bass and vocals Chris Wyse from Queens, NY will man the post. Previously recording with Ozzy Osbourne and playing on Mick Jagger‘s 2001 solo album, Chris is well known as the bass player from The Cult since 2006. Chris can also be heard on Frehley‘s new release, Space Invader on select tracks. He also covers bass duties in his current band, Owl.

Finally, Scot Coogan will be behind the drum kit for Frehley‘s upcoming tour. An Ace Frehley touring band veteran in his own right, Scott was also a member of Nikki Sixx’s Brides of Destruction recording and touring band in 2004 and Lita Ford’s touring drummer in 2012.
Ace Frehley recently made history with his new album Space Invader, which debuted at #9 on the Top 200 Chart in its week of release. The LP scored the highest charting position of ANY Kiss solo album ever, and marks Frehley‘s first return to the Top 10 since KISS‘s 1998 Pyscho Circus reunion album. Internationally, Space Invader has debuted #1 on the Independent Chart and #16 on the Top 200 Chart in Canada, Top 40 in Switzerland and Sweden, and hit a historic benchmark for the first time ever as a solo artist in Germany.

From Machine Head‘s Facebook page:
It is with great disappointment that Machine Head must announce the postponement of our North American tour this fall. Our new album “Bloodstone & Diamonds” has taken longer to complete than expected and we had to make the difficult choice to either delay the album, let it go out as incomplete, or cancel the tour in order to properly finish and promote the album in the caliber it needs to be done. We decided postponing the tour was the best decision for the record.

We feel this record is a milestone, we feel we have something truly special here, but getting there has been a challenge. Our vocalist / guitarist Robb Flynn just returned from a press tour where he was playing rough mixes and incomplete versions of songs for the press just to try and keep everything on time for our November release date.

Refunds will be available for tickets at point of purchase.

Look out for rescheduled American tour dates for the beginning of the year.

All scheduled European tour dates will remain as scheduled.

Machine Head release their 8th album “Bloodstone & Diamonds” on Nov 7th – EU, and Nov 10th in the U.S. and U.K.

Track listing is as follows:

Twelve Foot Ninja_band photoLos Angeles, CA – September 9, 2014 – One of Australia’s hottest, most innovative, and experimental new bands Twelve Foot Ninja have announced they will join one of America’s most unique heavy metal live acts, In This Moment, on a U.S. tour this fall and winter. Ticketmaster pre-sale begins Thursday, September 11 and public on-sale begins Friday, September 12. With 30 dates confirmed, Twelve Foot Ninja will be on the road supporting the recent stateside re-release of their critically acclaimed debut album Silent Machine (Volkanik Music). Earlier this year, the band took home the prestigious “Best New Talent” award at the sixth annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards . Cementing a cult-like following on the back of their brand of alternative rock, the band recently wrapped their first North American headlining tour performing throughout the U.S. and Canada, winning over thousands of fans at festivals with their explosive live performances at Welcome to Rockville, Carolina Rebellion, Rock on the Range, and Rocklahoma.

The debut single from Silent Machine, “Coming For You,” is currently impacting and reacting at radio now and has surpassed more than 1,000,000 YouTube views.  Widely praised by audiences and critics alike for their ability to combine juxtaposing genres seamlessly, “Coming For You” is the perfect embodiment of this.  Check out the video below.

In conjunction with the album re-release (featuring two acoustic bonus tracks), the band has bundled a special edition of Silent Machine with a 72-page full-color companion comic book containing 12 individual narratives inspired by the 12 songs featured on the Silent Machine. The band collaborated with acclaimed comic artist Keith Draws to produce the comics, which are based on the original Twelve Foot Ninja fable co-written by guitarist Steve ‘Stevic’ Mackay. The story chronicles a sole ninja’s mission to restore balance in a world headed toward a self-inflicted apocalypse. The special edition CD/comic book bundle can now be purchased exclusively at their online store: http://chasemusic.com.au/twelvefootninja.

Twelve Foot Ninja are often classified as heavy fusion or progressive hard rock but whatever genre you call them, they are known for their seamless genre hopping, soaring melodies over heavy rock, and witty music videos – they take an authentic approach to each style and tie it all together to deliver an inimitable sonic flavor. Stamped with a five-star review by Blunt Magazine, Silent Machine has been described as “reggae, Fate of Nations-era Robert Plant rock, space-rock, djent, Queensrychean hard rock and more, yet they somehow manage to tie it all together without sounding too ADHD…if you loved Faith No More’s King for a Day, you’ll feel right at home in this Silent Machine.”

Twelve Foot Ninja is Nik “Kin” Etik on vocals, Steve “Stevic” MacKay on guitar, Damon McKinnon on bass, Shane “Russ” Russell on drums, and Rohan Hayes on guitar.

Butcher Babies Uncovered Album CoverTaking a page from heroes METALLICA and GUNS N’ ROSES, Los Angeles breakthrough metal act, BUTCHER BABIES, has recorded an EP of cover tunes that will surely please fans of the band, as well as fans of the artists that performed them originally. Titled Uncovered, this EP will be released on September 30 in North America (October 6 in Europe) and features the following five tracks:

1. Beer Drinkers And Hell Raisers
2. They’re Coming To Take Me Away
3. Don’t Give A Fuck
4. Crazy Horses
5. Pussy Whipped

For a preview of Uncovered, BUTCHER BABIES has posted their cover of “They’re Coming To Take Me Away”, which can be seen below.

BUTCHER BABIES released their Century Media debut full length, Goliath, last summer and took part in that year’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, where they were a mainstay on the Jagermeister stage and a breakout band of the fest. Following that, they toured the US with the legendary GLENN DANZIG, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and DOWN, plus played on many of America’s premier metal festivals – Columbus OH’s “Rock on the Range” and Oklahoma’s “Rocklahoma”, to name a few. It was during this time that BUTCHER BABIES made plans to record some of their favorite tunes. Each band member chose a track, and in the early summer of this year, they entered the studio with producer Logan Mader (DEVILDRIVER, GOJIRA, 5 FINGER DEATH PUNCH) to dissect and “butcher” these five classics, creating something all their own.

Shortly before the release of Uncovered, BUTCHER BABIES will embark on their first headlining run in the US.  See below for all upcoming dates.

From MACWORLD.com:
Apple CEO Tim Cook teased that he had “one more thing” up his sleeve before introducing the Apple Watch at Apple‘s gargantuan event on Tuesday, but as it turns out, he had two. Legendary rock band U2 took the stage post-Watch to jam out “The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone),” a track from its new Songs of Innocence album—an album that Apple released to all iTunes users immediately after the performance for the low, low price of absolutely nothing.

u2Yes, the blockbuster new album from one of the biggest bands in the world is free on iTunes right now. The whole thing. All of it. Seriously, go check it out.

It makes music history,” Cook said after hitting a mock button that sent the album out over the Internet. “Largest album release of all time.”

You’ll already find Songs of Innocence in the Albums section of iTunes or the iOS Music app, and it will hit Apple’s Beats Music and iTunes Radio streaming services on September 10, if you prefer renting to owning. The album will be an Apple exclusive through mid-October—you won’t even be able to buy a physical copy of the album until then. Even if you’re not signed up with any of Apple‘s music services today, anybody who gets on board with iTunes before October 13 will receive a free copy of the album.

An update to this story…
From 14news.com:
31-year-old James Evans, who was arrested for posting song lyrics on Facebook, was released from jail Wednesday afternoon after spending eight days locked up.
Evans says he’s been told the case will be deferred for six months and he will have to undergo a mental evaluation.
Evans says he can’t believe what has happened.
It’s nonsense. I feel like my civil rights have been violated. You know first amendment freedom of speech out the window. Even all the guys I was in the cell with they thought it was nonsense themselves. I had several officials tell me it was nonsense that there was no reason why I should have even been here,” says Evans.
Police say the lyrics indicated a threat to students and school staff.
The county attorney and the school resource officer for the Muhlenberg county schools declined to comment about the case.

It appears 31-year-old James “Jamie” Evans, an EXODUS fan living in Greenville, Kentucky, has been arrested – and is currently being jailed – for alleged terroristic threats for posting the lyrics to the EXODUS song “Class Dismissed (A Hate Primer)” from the band’s 2010 Billboard-charting album Exhibit B: The Human Condition. Click here for information on the arrest.

No past or present member of EXODUS has ever promoted or condoned terrorists, threats, or bullying. Band members are baffled by what appears to be a violation of the right to Freedom of Speech, which is protected under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

gary holtEXODUS guitarist & songwriter Gary Holt has issued the following statement:

The idea that an individual in this great country of ours could be arrested for simply posting lyrics to a song is something I never believed could happen in a free society. James Evans was simply posting lyrics to a band he likes on Facebook, and he was locked up for it. The song ‘Class Dismissed (A Hate Primer)’ was written as a view through the eyes of a madman and in no way endorses that kind of fucked-up behavior. It was 2007’s Virginia Tech massacre perpetrated by Seung-Hui Cho that was the subject and inspiration to write the song, one in which we put the brakes on playing it live after the Sandy Hook shooting, as we did not want to seem insensitive.”

Gary continues:

“As some of us in EXODUS are parents, of course these things hit close to home, it’s every parent’s worst fear. These moments are the stuff of nightmares, and life – as well as music – isn’t always pretty. But when we start to overreact to things like lyrics by any band – including EXODUS – and start arresting people, we are caving in to paranoia and are well on our way to becoming an Orwellian society.”

Blood In, Blood Out, EXODUS’ tenth studio album featuring guest appearances by Kirk Hammett (METALLICA), Chuck Billy (TESTAMENT), and Dan the Automator (GORILLAZ, MIKE PATTON), will be released in North America on October 14th via Nuclear Blast Records.

The band’s upcoming U.S. tour with SLAYER and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES launches November 11th in Oakland, California.

From Rolling Stone.com:

faith no moreInfluential alterna-metal iconoclasts Faith No More are set to release their seventh album — their first in 18 years — in April of 2015, bassist Bill Gould tells Rolling Stone. The record will be a totally independent product — produced by Gould, recorded in their Oakland rehearsal space and released on their own imprint, Reclamation Records (which will be distributed by frontman Mike Patton‘s long-running label, Ipecac Recordings).

The name has to do with the fact that we realized we were free from our recording obligations,” says Gould. “We weren’t touring, we have these songs that we were working on — that we think are pretty cool — and why don’t we just do our own imprint and kind of reclaim our future, in a way? We own the future more than we ever have.”

Though no dates have been booked, the band is planning a full U.S. tour around the album’s release. Since their return to the stage in 2009, they’ve only played five American cities.

The album’s first single, “Motherfucker,” a song they premiered in London’s Hyde Park in July, will be released on a seven-inch due for November 28th release and limited to 5,000 copies as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday. Massachusetts metal band Shadows Fall will embark on their final European tour in less than a week. The “Hell on Earth” tour will begin in Frankfurt, Germany on Aug. 29 and runs until Sept. 14. The tour also features Unearth, The Acacia Strain and War of Ages.

Shadows-Fall-04-254x300The band has been touring non-stop for over a decade and has decided that it’s time to “take a hiatus” from future extensive touring. In addition to this upcoming European run, Shadows Fall are planning a final North American tour and will possibly visit a few other territories some time over the next year.

There are many factors that are behind this difficult decision that the band has been dealing with for some time now. In a nutshell it comes down to families, member availability, and finances. Further impacting our decision is the fact that we have two members with young children. Plain and simple, they want to be with their families to watch their kids grow.

Touring full time in a band these days has never been more difficult financially. When you have to ensure the future comfort of your family, difficult decisions have to be made. Another reason is the fact that our lead guitarist (Jon Donais) is now in Anthrax, which makes it hard for us to do any extensive touring with our full lineup. Due to his obligations with Anthrax, he will not be able to join us on this European tour. Felipe Roa will once again fill Jon’s position and we are thankful to him for joining us on this run.

Also returning for this tour is original bassist Paul Romanko who has sat out from touring for the last two years to raise his son.

This has been a real hard decision for all of us to make but we feel at this time this is the right thing to do. We don’t hate each other, we’re not bitter, we in fact still have a really great time together, but the ride has slowed down and it’s time for the next chapters in our lives, whatever that may be. We can’t thank the fans that have supported Shadows Fall since the beginning enough. Without you, none of this would have been possible. For the past decade and a half, we have been able to create the music we have always wanted to hear and share it with music fans everywhere. That being said, you still may see us at a festival or two over the next few years…if they ask, we will come! In the meantime please check out the dates for the last European go around and we will see you out there!

NOTHING MORE’s “This Is The Time (Ballast)”, the first single from the band’s ELEVEN SEVEN MUSIC self titled debut, has climbed to the very top of the Active Rock Radio and Mediabase Charts – reaching #1 this week! This previously unknown band exploded on to the scene laying waste to many established artists that stood in their way as they fought their way to the top. The video for the #1 track is at about 1.2 Million views and climbing.

Nothing More_Jonny Hawkins 3The band recently announced a headlining tour with the band SLEEPWAVE in tow as well as a supporting slot with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH / VOLBEAT and HELLYEAH. They recently played the DOWNLOAD Festival in the UK, and ROCK AM RING and ROCK IM PARK in Germany (rare for a brand new band). Away Team’s own Jay Rybak said on his review of their self titled debut disc, “From the opening track “Ocean Floor” to the pounding rain of “Pyre”, this album is a non-stop onslaught of prog-rock perfection…  All in all the self titled debut from Nothing More is nothing less than one of 2014’s best albums.  This album comes extremely highly recommended!
