SKINDRED Roots Rock Riot
Bieler Bros. Records
Rating: 10 out of 10
Reviewed by: Craig “Bam-Bam” Stegall

While I can’t say that I’ve ever been interested in Reggae music or even the lifestyle that remotely surrounds its musical heroes, I do love Hard Rock and Metal. So, what do you get when you combine the two? Well, earlier KORN material tried to show us what it could have been if the band was minus the wigger mentality, but it always fell short for that reason. Now, self-proclaimed Rasta-Metal badboys SKINDRED are here to show us how it should have been done all along. We got a fleeting brush with these guys back in late 2004 when radio timidly picked up on the “Nobody (Gets Out Alive)” single, but other than that…we knew very little about them. Although they were good enough to land a major label deal with that single and Atlantic Records picked the U.K. group up for their first album, 2004’s Babylon which didn’t do much to cement their feet in U.S. soil as a Hard Rock contender. Leave it to the genius of our very own Bieler Brothers, Aaron and Jason, to snag the band and add it to their growing roster of major success stories. What we get here is a band who has no stipulations put on their sound, is able to create from the heart, and is very vocal in the production of the entire effort. The results? A band who could easily take the heavy, vocal-charged, harmonically rhythmic title away from anyone even attempting the style at this time! Roots Rock Riot will probably only alert the attention of clever and innovative program directors in this world, of which there are very few left, but the one thing it will do is totally convert anything the public has ever thought about Aggro/NU/Radio Metal into a solid bridge of stability towards experimental, riff-infected, soul soaked Rock! Plain and simple, this is killer music, from a band who has a sixth-sense towards creating something we’ve never heard before but wreaks of familiarity. How do they do it? I’ve not a clue, but if you give yourself the project of one listen to this little masterpiece, you’ll be ready to elect yourself the job of spreading the word to anyone within earshot of how great this band is. That’s the key here…fuck radio, this needs a bigger audience. Click HERE to purchase and cast your vote! With one of my highest recommendations!!!
