 Oh my, what have we here??? I couldn’t put my finger on what to classify this one as. I would have called the album Prego Spaghetti Sauce because “it’s all in there”! At times the Urchin sound like killer Cheap Trick (“The Jack-O-Lantern”) from days gone by and then at others they have a The Clash (both “Bomb Me” and “White Dove”) feel to them. Then, they totally switch it up and go somewhat Pop on us with a very Third-Eye Blind kind of sound (“There Are People In The Clouds” and “Dracula Bite”) Former Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French even gets in on the action by playing guitar on the aforementioned “The Jack-O-Lantern”. I’ll tell you, if you’re looking for something really different that rocks and sparks the imagination, this is it!!! The only thing I really found that I didn’t dig about the whole affair was that the lyrics seem a little silly, sometimes downright laughable, but that may be totally on purpose, so I just let it slide. Very well-recorded and produced and singer/drummer Tomato has a great voice, so this one is a keeper for sure. Head over to WWW.HYBRIDRECORDINGS.COM to score a copy of The Diamond now.
