TRIVIUM set date for new CD
From Press release:

Florida metal titans Trivium, who have sold well over half a million records worldwide since 2005, are proud to announce the release of Shogun, their third album for Roadrunner Records. Shogun will be released on September 30.

Trivium set release date foe new CD

Critics and metalheads worldwide took notice when Trivium crashed the metal world in 2005, with the release of the Ascendancy album, landing them multiple magazine covers across the globe in less than a year and picking up "Best New Band" accolades almost everywhere they played. Intent on not delivering a 'part two' with their follow-up record, 2006's The Crusade took a slightly different direction, with cleaner singing and more varied influences. It retained their stunning signature guitar work and led to some enviable touring opportunities with bands such as Metallica and Iron Maiden.

Widespread Panic Sunday @ Bonnaroo!
Jimmy Hereing of Widespread Panic
Jimmy Herring photo

Widespread Panic rocked out the closing set at this years Bonnaroo. They tore through a set of mostly commonly played songs but really tore into them. The Mega Blaster horn section was great an really added alot to the set. The MVP of the show was Jimmy Herring, he really brings alot to the table and gives songs I have heard hundreds of times new life. The jam out of Ain't Life Grand was incredible and everything they did with Robert Randolph was outstanding. Robert was all over it, he really seems to have a great connection with the guys of Widespread Panic and his enthusiasum seems to make the guys in Widespread Panic step up when ever Robert is on stage with them. Over all a great set! Over all an awesome Bonnaroo. Oh and, Fuck Kanye!

Total Wrap up coming soon. Click for Panic set list

Sunday Afternoon: Robert Plant & Allison Krauss + Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi
ALLISON KRAUSS & ROBERT PLANT
Robert Plant and Allison Krause photos by Dave Rogers

I'm not quite old enough to of seen Led Zeppelin but I consider myself lucky to of seen each surviving member perform with others. Jimmy Page with the Black Crowes, John Paul Jones with Uncle Earl plus Gov't Mule and now Robert Plant with Allison Krauss. Robert is a damn good showman and has a lot of personality on stage. Today he wasn't screaming his head off like he was in the old days but you could tell his voice has found a new way to entertain making stylish, bluesy, Americana music with T Bone Burnett and Alison Krauss. Alison looked amazing and her voice soared from the main staged and echoed across the the expansive Bonnaroo grounds.

I'm not sure why but Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi started really late. After the stage crew scrambled to work out the trouble. Susan and Dereks bands both took the stage. Susan and Mike Mattison shared vocals while Derek led the band through some scorching blues rock. Since the Allman Brothers Band were forced to cancel this more than made up for it!

ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA
Zappa Plays Zappa photo by Dave Rogers

On Saturday I caught Ozomatli on the What Stage where their fans ate up the jazz/ funk/ rap/ rockers for LA. Then I made it over to see the Avett Brothers who were having a great time performing to a tent full of screaming girls. The scene here was quite the opposite of my next stop: just a few hundred yards away Mastodon was pummeling their fans with their technical brand of Metal. The audience here showed their appreciation my throwing mud everywhere!! After that Zappa Plays Zappa fronted by Dweezil performed a set of his dad's tunes with a great support band. Very fun.

Saturday
Saturday started off slow again. Stuck in a hangover haze. I got to catch a little of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, unfortunately it was a little too hot to get my groove on, so I moved on. I hit enough Little Feat to see Dixie Chicken, then off to one of my favorites from last year, Gogol Bordello, nothings better than a little "gypsy punk" in the hot sun. They played on the second biggest stage an the crowd was ten times bigger than last year, and twice as into it. they whole front portion of the crowd was jumping and pumping fists. Good stuff.

Next up Mastadon, Saturdays metal fix. they threw down with a vengeance. Loud and in your face, judging by the crowd, most of them threw down a little too hard at Metallica the night before. Still Mastondon gave the unenthusiastic crowd the best set I have ever seen the preform. Net up Cat Power, a welcome change to all the metal shrapnel my ears collected during Mastadon.

After a couple sultury Cat Power I hit Zappa Plays Zappa. These guys don't Play they gave up the goods. Dweezil is doin' his dad justice for sure. A great Joes Garage was my highlight I got to catch most of Levon Helms set. All I can say is AWESOME! he is a national treasure. Their set ripped. John Molo to the drum throne every time Levon picked up the mandolin, and Larry Cambell played every stringed instrument under the sun. Highlights, Chest Fever, Stage Fright, and the Weight. I was worn out after Levon so I made my way to the artist compound for some Red Bull and Vodkaaction and chilled until Pearl Jam.

Pearl Jam is really really good, I guess it's just not my cup of tea. Great set, not that inspiring to me though. Plus I was really anticipating Phil & Friends Late Night set.As Pearl Jam broke for their encore I headed to see Phil on the second biggest stage. Phil and Friends brought it. Everything was played to perfection. This band has really really impressed me. Jackie Green is a bad ass. All these songs played had a fresh, new, exciting feel. I love seeing Phil with any band, but this one really has a new fresh look at all these classic songs. I will do a all encompassing review of this show when I get back let me just say it was incredible.

Phil was a little pissed about Kanye playing and called him out. Phil said "we would love to play for you all all night but some Macho Bull Shit is goin' down on the main stage so their cutting us short", This prompted on of the many "Fuck Kanye" chants I heard Saturday night or should I say Sunday morning. Since Phil cut out a half hour early, I went to see Kanya who was supposed to start at 2:30 but didn't take the stage until 4:30 a.m.. This pissed ALOT of people off. He apparently was up set because it needed to be dark for his set, so they moved his set to 2:30 ish and then he has the nerve to make everyone wait until 4:30 for him to bring his punk ass to the stage! Two songs in the sun pops up and messes up his light show, more chants of "Fuck Kanye" greet the morning sun. So I stayed as long as I could. I made it back to my camp site at 6:00 a.m. and got a good hour of sleep before the blazing sun turned my tent into a sauna. Fun Night, Horrible hangover, AGAIN.

FRIDAY NIGHT: METALLIROO/ CHRIS ROCK/ SUPERJAM
It was lightly raining when METALLICA's Kirk and Lars introduced CHRIS ROCK. ROCK gave a one hour stand up performance to what must be the largest audience a comic could ever see! It was fucking hilarious! He talked about the presidential candidates, the n-word and when it's ok for white people to use the n-word. Very funny.

About 20 minutes after his set Rock came back to introduce METALLICA who took the stage to the "theme from Exodus" and ripped through 3 songs from the Ride the Lightning album: Creeping Death, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and the title cut. That was followed by Harvester of Sorrow. They did not play anything after the Black album. And that's fine with me. I was kinda done with the band in the 90s when they reduced their first two albums to a medley! This show and the set list was very redeeming. Other classics songs included No Remorse, And Justice For All, One, Master of Puppets.

After that MY MORNING JACKET played the outdoor stage and they sounded great. By this time the raid was a little bit much. Kirk from METALLICA sat in and played an MMJ song with them.

After a quick trip to the Disco tent to see Sojourn I went to check on the Superjam where GOGOL BORDELLO was joined by LES CLAYPOOL to drink and play some bass too!

Friday the 13th @ Bonnaroo.
Great day so far! Drive By Truckers started thing off music wise for me. Paterson Hood took the stage and steeped up to the mic and belted out "We are the Drive By Truckers, we are your mother fucking wake up call!" and then tore through a steller set of Truckers favorites. the highlite of their set was "18 Wheels of Love", Paterson broke a few strings so his intro was longer than normal, he told the story of his mom and step dad, Chester. He told the story of their relationship and all but also added a peice about Chesters fighting the odds of congestive heart failure. Great story from a great story teller, not many dry eyes around me by the time he was done telling the story of Chester and his mom.
This brings me to the new Bonnaroo drinking game. For those of you familiar with Michael Franti and Spearhead you know of the "How You Feelin'" drinking game, when Michael says "How You Feelin" you drink, and if you have seen him you know it could be 126 times in a single set. Well, I devised a drinking game, everytime Patterson Hood says "Mother Fucker" you drink, I would like to see the person who could walk out of that show on their own.
After the Truckers, I checked out a little Umphrey's McGee for a second and then made my way over to see Steven Marley. He is now my favorite Marley kid. His set included alot of his dads songs with fresh new takes on all the classics. "Duppy Conquorer" was phenominal. His whole set was amazing though. If you a fan of great Reggae check him out.
I got in a little Les Claypool before the Raconteurs. I have to say out of all the Bonnaroos I have been to this could have been one of my favorite sets I have seen on any of these stages. The came out wailing, dirty crunchy Blues/Rock. They absolutly slayed the crowd. I am not too familiar with their music other than what I have heard on the radio, but I can tell you this I am buying every peice of music they have released when I get back.
Well now I am off to Willie Nelson and M.I.A..
Stay tuned, more to come.

Thursday night @ Bonnaroo.
Thursday night at Bonnaroo is a little difficult for me to remeber. I spent way too much time in the Brooers tent. I did however catch a little bit of MGMT, they were fun for a few songs, catchy disco funk rock. After another trip to the Brooers tent I made it to the Sword, th.is was by far my favorite set of the night and the last good memories of the night as well. These guys threw down. After listening to MGMT, I needed this boost of testostrone drenched "stoner rock", and they delivered. I over heard several people commenting on how one of their songs was the jam on Guitar Hero. After yet another extended visit to the Brooers tent I draged myself down to Dark Star Orchestra of course, as always, they delivered a great set of Grateful Dead classics. I didn't stay for too long, but I know they played an original set as opposed to a recreation of a complete Grateful Dead concert. I recall a great version of the Jerry Garcia Band staple "Run for the Roses" and a well played "Cassidy" By the time they got really into "Cassidy" I made the wise decision to call it a night, and made the haul back to our compound. This morning as I back in the hot sun, with a nasty Bonna-Hangover, I realize I should have thrown in the towel earlier. Oh well! Today should be a great day, I can hear the Drive By Truckers sound checking so I am starting to get pumped for their set. Also on tap for me today Steven Marley, Les Claypool, The Raconteurs, Wille Nelson, M.I.A., Chris Rock, Metallica, My Morning Jacket and Howling Rain. Lets see how much of this I can actually see.
Day one @ Bonnaroo!
Finally at Bonnaroo! It is warm, but it has been warmer. I am not sure you could ask for better weather in smack dab in the middle of Tennessee in June. Just strolled around the grounds, alot of new infastructure. There is a barn with cattle roping and mechanical bull riding, a full service post office adobe, a big hill next to the main stage for the "v.i.p.'s". Everything looks great, the music has started and we are ready to ROCK! Tonight I plan on checking out Superdrag, the Sword and Dark Star Orchestra. Superdrag is now lingering in the distance so I am off. I hope to get back on tonight, but if not expect some recap in the morning. You should totally be here!!!! Full story...

new DRAGONFORCE release Aug 26
DragonForce photo by Dave Rogers

DragonForce will release Ultra Beatdown on August 26, 2008. Here is that press release:

Ultra Beatdown is an epic, sweeping, grand collection of infectious guitar anthems that'll inspire all who listen to either pump their fists in the air or pick up a guitar, whether it be real or virtual. DragonForce's single from 2006's Inhuman Rampage, "Through The Fire and Flames," exploded on the public beyond the metal world thanks to its appearance on the massively popular guitar simulator game. The single has been RIAA certified Gold in the US, with the album scanning over 300,000 copies (and counting) to date.

DragonForce will spend the summer as a main stage attraction on the inaugural Rockstar Energy Mayhem tour, which features labelmates/headliners Slipknot, as well as Disturbed, Machine Head, Mastodon, and Airbourne, to name a few. DragonForce will undoubtedly tear up the stage with their blend of guitar acrobatics, traded off by the virtuosos known as Herman Li and Sam Totman, as well as the soaring, room-filling vocals of ZP Theart. Bassist Fredric Leclerq and drummer Dave Mackintosh continue to fortify the band's rhythmic backbone, while Vadim Pruzhanov laces the band's power sound with keys.
